Insulation Resistance Tester + Digital Megohmmeter Operation and Maintenance

Before measurement, cut off the power supply of the device under test, and connect the conductive parts of the device to the ground for full discharge to ensure safety. Electrical equipment measured with a digital megohmmeter should also be grounded and discharged in time before re-measurement. Before measurement, check whether the digital megohmmeter is intact, that is, before connecting the megohmmeter to the object under test, turn on the power switch and check the battery status of the digital megohmmeter. If the battery is low, replace it promptly; otherwise, the measurement data will be unreliable. Insert the test leads into the terminals "Line (L) and Earth (E)", select the test voltage, disconnect the test leads, press the test button, and observe whether the display shows infinity.

Insulation Resistance Tester VC60B+ Digital Megohmmeter Usage Method

1. Before measurement, the power supply of the device under test must be cut off, and the device must be short-circuited and discharged to ground. Never measure while the device is energized to ensure the safety of personnel and equipment. For devices that may induce high voltage, this possibility must be eliminated before measurement.

2. The surface of the object under test should be clean to reduce contact resistance and ensure the accuracy of measurement results.

3. Before measurement, perform an open-circuit and short-circuit test on the megohmmeter to check if it is in good condition. That is, before connecting the megohmmeter to the object under test, crank the handle to make the generator reach the rated speed (120 r/min), and observe whether the pointer points to the "∞" position on the scale. Short-circuit the terminals "Line (L) and Earth (E)", slowly crank the handle, and observe whether the pointer points to the "0" position on the scale. If the pointer cannot reach the indicated position, the megohmmeter is faulty and should be repaired before use.

Applications

Before powering up a system, using insulation testing to verify its integrity can improve system performance; insulation testing can detect manufacturing process issues and equipment defects that are generally not discoverable before equipment failure. This test is mandatory, even for the smallest residential systems.
