Vining type, vigorous plant growth, strong branching ability, both main and lateral vines can bear fruit. 85-90 days from sowing to first harvest. First female flower node on main vine at 6-8 nodes, female flowers on middle lateral vines at 2-3 nodes. Commercial fruit is long rod-shaped, green-white in color, smooth, shiny, with warty protrusions alternating between coarse strips and round spots. Fruit length 30-38 cm, diameter 5-7 cm, flesh thickness 1.0-1.3 cm, single fruit weight 450-550 g. Tail slightly pointed, flesh crisp and tender, slightly bitter taste, good quality.

Yield Performance

In 2007 production test, early average yield 1373 kg/mu, 11% higher than the control Lanshan Changbai bitter gourd, 13% higher than Chunqiuwang bitter gourd; average total yield 3065 kg/mu, 17% higher than Lanshan Changbai bitter gourd, and 16% higher than Chunqiuwang bitter gourd·

Key Cultivation Points

For spring open field cultivation, sow from late February to mid-March; for autumn greenhouse facility cultivation, sow in mid-to-late July. Use nutrient cup seedling transplanting, with plant spacing of 1.0 m × 0.33 m, about 2000 plants per mu; apply heavy basal fertilizer deeply, applying 3000-3500 kg of decomposed farmyard manure, 50 kg of calcium-magnesium phosphate fertilizer, 30 kg of compound fertilizer, and 20 kg of potassium fertilizer per mu, mix well with soil before transplanting. When plants reach 1 meter, timely prune and guide vines, and thin out lateral branches. The harvest standard for commercial fruit is when warty protrusions are fully plump and the peel is green, which ensures quality and facilitates continuous fruit setting, improving yield. During the growth period of bitter gourd, pay attention to preventing and controlling diseases and pests such as epidemic disease, downy mildew, powdery mildew, aphids, mites, melon fruit flies, and root-knot nematodes.
